more instinctive user experience. It offers unique new features for users and tools to produce amazing new apps for developers. According to Apple, they ‘simply set out to create the most natural experience. Each enhancement has a purpose. Every new feature deserves to be a new feature. Each function is more considered, each next step is more efficient. It all adds up to an even better experience – one that is pleasantly surprising at first and becomes utterly indispensable before you know it’. The brand new significant features include iCloud Photo Library, a new Messages app, the QuickType keyboard, a completely new Health app and a remote controlled HomeKit app. Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering has stated, “We’re also giving developers amazing new tools to make managing your health and your home from your devices an integrated, simple and secure experience”.

 

Developments in Apple Features

According to Apple, the following features experienced software changes:

Photos

The Photos app and iCloud Photo library enables access to all of the photos and videos at all times. Photos are easy to locate and are set out in an organized manner across the device. The Photos app is designed to straighten horizons and with brand new editing tools, alter light and colour or use individual tools for a more effective fine-tuning. With the iCloud Photo Library, every effect and change made is automatically updated across the devices.

Messaging

The Messaging app allows the user the ability to chat with just a swipe. Tap to Talk enables the user to share their voice. Group messaging lets users add or remove contacts from a conversation, leave a chat and the option to not be disturbed. Users are able to comfortably browse through all of the videos and photos within a conversation and share a number of photos and videos at once. The Messaging app also lets users choose to share their current location from their Messages.

QuickType Keyboard

Apple has introduced a new type of predictive typing for its’ QuickType keyboard. This feature is more personalized and efficiently takes into consideration who the recipient is and in which app the user is typing. QuickType is designed to identify the way users communicate allowing for suggestions of common phrases so users are able to write entire sentences with just a few clicks. The keyboard encrypts everything that is being typed in the device.

Health

The Health app collects the information users choose from their various health apps and fitness devices and provides a clear and concise overview in one place. iOS 8 also have created the ability for developers to allow health and fitness apps to communicate with each other. Through the users permission, each app can use particular information from other apps to illustrate a more complete and thorough way to manage health and fitness.

HomeKit

The HomeKit app allows users to use their mobile device as a form of remote control for their homes. This includes controlling locks, garage doors and lights within the household.

 

Expected Release

The Sydney Morning Herald have reported that Apple expects to release the software between September and November this year. The new iOS 8 software is available as a free update to iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, the iPod touch 5th generation and Ipads dating back to the iPad 2.
