The latest photo messaging application Snapchat has just revealed a brand new exclusive feature: instant messaging and live video chats. Snapchat provides users with the ability to chat via photo messaging to one another for up to 10 seconds or less. The exclusive feature involves swiping to the right from the main camera screen and you’ll see a list of your friends, allowing you to chat with them using more conventional methods. This feature gives users more privacy options while in instant communication with their friends. According to Snapchat, it’s new chatting feature functions in the same way: users chat with others for as long as they wish, but as soon as they leave the chat screen, the entire conversation is cleared. The feature does also provide an opportunity to save a chat via screenshot or by tapping on it to save. Messages that are being delivered to and from users are wiped by default when the conversation is over, unless they are being deliberately saved.

The new update involves the appearance of a blue popping icon informing you that a friend is attentive to your chat. By pressing the blue icon and holding the button, paves way for a one way video stream between you and your friend. Your friend is also able to stream a video conversation with you by also pressing the blue icon producing a two way video conversation. Both parties are able to quickly flip between the back and front facing cameras. These alterations to Snapchat expands what they are capable of achieving. However, they ingeniously avoid transforming what Snapchat really is. This upgrade provides greater opportunities for the up and coming application in the world of social networking.

The exclusive feature has been introduced in an update to the existing app. Snapchat’s blog stated: “There’s nothing like knowing you have the full attention of your friend while you’re chatting”. The app makes it incredibly easy to include selfies and videos to conversations. Snapchat have been reported to have declined a $3 billion offer from Facebook to buy the app last year in 2013. Including the chat capability places Snapchat in direct competition with other messaging applications such as WeChat, Facebook’s Whatsapp, and Blackberry’s BBM. The one feature that allows Snapchat to stand out is the fact that conversations are immediately erased from existence. This places Snapchat at the forefront of social networking. It was always a wonder what Snapchat would fire out next. The inclusion of video communication allows  people to interact and end all evidence of the conversation. A feature that is proving highly attractive to consumers. Snapchat’s updated app is currently available now. Check it out!
